and watch the surf contest

the form

the human form

rodger got me on my line-quality this week...
you can see some 'chicken scratch' lines around her shoulder,
which reveals a lack of confidence within the process.
hmmph.

stilling life, seeing light and dark

the term 'still life' really refers to an inanimate object as the subject
but i prefer 'stilling life'
because drawing a still life
gives me a sense of calm

in class work from this past week...  could use some more shading and smoothing
but i kinda dig my scribbly lines ;)

dawn

i wish i could capture this moment
and share it with you

the roosters crow, saying good morning
the sun rises in the east
unveiling golden skies
the horizon in the distance
above the clam, denim blue sea

puffy clouds take a moment to breathe
grasses soak up the dawn's first dews
silence and beauty before the start of day
even my pinaoʻula sleeps

hilinaʻi

hilinaʻi... to believe, trust, confidence.

staring at the moon tonight
looking up
as it looks down
watching the night... lighting this sight
what has this moon seen?

here we dwell
where roots have grown
where branches stole away
shriveled, died
we remain

we chart a new course
set a new path
return to what we knew

preserve the best
learn what is left
