crockpot pear-applesauce
a super-easy use for leftover apples from christmas!
i intended to make an apple crisp for christmas day dinner,
but after cooking for christmas eve dinner and christmas brunch i was over it.
since our little man loves applesauce in the mornings, we put the apples to good use.
ingredients:
9 apples
1 pear*
1/3 c. water
1 tb. ground cinnamon
peel, core and slice your apples and pear
place them in crockpot
add water and cinnamon
slow cook on low for 4 hours**
if a smoother consistency is desired, blend with immersion blender
(i left ours chunky)
*because i used granny smith apples, i chose to add one pear for sweetness. alternatives: add sugar (about 1 tb. to 1/8 c. depending on preference) or use sweeter apples if tart isn't your thing.
**applesauce could go for up to 6 hours - if you pay attention to the smell of the applesauce, you'll notice a slight maturation in the sweet apple smell once it's ready.
